About Dr Ian Singleton:
Ian was previously a keeper at Jersey Zoo where he looked after the Sumatran orangutans for many years. In 2001 he left Durrell to set up the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) in partnership with the Swiss-based PanEco Foundation and Yayasan Ekosistem. Ian’s focus is now on rescuing illegal pet orangutans and returning them to a life in the wild via the haven he is establishing. He continues to research and monitor the remaining wild Sumatran orangutan population in a mission to protect and preserve these gentle apes.
