LIBERATION INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL 6th to 14th May 2017
Tickets are now on sale for for the ninth Liberation International Music Festival put on by local charity Music in Action,

From 6th to 14th May 2017 the island will be filled with music making and dancing of the highest calibre as we celebrate the 72nd anniversary of Liberation from occupation. Such has been the demand that the organisers are delighted to put the tickets on sale and announce the world class acts.

The Festival is delighted to bring new twists on favourite events such as Jazz at Hamptonne with award winning jazz soloist Ray Gelato and his Giants, the Royal Ballet with an intimate portrait of principal ballerina Lauren Cuthbertson, a delicious night of food matched with music at Ormer, Italian classics such as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Jersey Chamber Orchestra, and the International Chamber Music Series bringing us Maxim Rysanov probably the greatest viola player in the world with other international stars playing chamber music, alongside a whole host of other events.

The award winning stars will also be joined by Jersey artistes. Uniquely they will perform at both formal and al fresco events at venues around the Island including Hamptonne, St Brelade’s Church, Ormer as well as Jersey Opera House and more established venues.

For the 72nd anniversary celebrations this year’s highlights remain the liberation of Jersey from German occupation through music. A central theme running through this year’s programme will also be the celebration of unity of Europe as we focus on wonderful music across the divide with German music represented, alongside English, German, Italian, and American music.

Festival Chairman, James Mews stated, The exciting programme speaks to us of darkness and light, of the strength of nations working together and unity after the second world war. We are very excited about the unique opportunities in the festival offered to the island from the popular events such as Jazz at Hamptonne with the jazz star Ray Gelato, or the Musical Walk to masterworks from the chamber music and singing repertoire on Saturday 13th May including Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, as well as a intimate portrait of Lauren Cuthbertson one of stars of the Royal Ballet. Whatever you like, whatever your tastes – they are sure to be satisfied by the 9th international festival.

Over the last nine years, the festival has gone from strength to strength to become one of the largest Jersey Festivals, as well as an international draw for tourists, bringing over 500 visitors to the Island. More than 3000 performers have appeared in concerts emblazoned across the rich tapestry of Island heritage sites and traditional performance venues. Over 140 international soloists, and such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic Octet, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have performed in the Island.
