Country Cinema Season

Building on the success of last years Coastal Cinema series in aid of the Coastline Campaign, the National Trust for Jersey is staging another cinema season this time with a more bucolic theme!

The films, kindly funded by leading law firm Mourant, Ozannes, will be screened in some of the Trusts historic farm houses and outbuildings including Le Quetivel Mill in St Peter’s Valley. Films will be aimed at different audiences, for example, the award winning film Babe about a piglet who narrowly escapes his fate as Christmas dinner, is aimed at children and will be held in a working farm where piglets will be in residence!

The cinema season will start with the latest Jane Austen Love and Friendship starring Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny the film is based on Austen’s comic gem novella Lady Susan and will be shown in the Pressoir at The Elms.

The films will start at 7.00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month from May to November.

Donna Le Marrec, Marketing and Events Manager for the National Trust said The Country Cinema and other events that we are delivering this year seek to engage with our supporters in a fun way we want cinema goers to enjoy and discover our wonderful old buildings and by supporting the Trust, protect them for the future.

Thursday 4 May Love and Friendship
Love & Friendship is a 2016 period comedy film written and directed by Whit Stillman. Based on Jane Austen's epistolary novel, Lady Susan, written in 1794, the film stars Kate Beckinsale, Chloe Sevigny, Xavier Samuel, and Stephen Fry. The film follows the exploits of the wry and calculating Lady Susan as she pursues the wealthy and hapless Sir James for marriage originally intended for her daughter, though she eventually marries him herself.

Thursday 1 June Jean de Florettes
Is a 1986 French period drama film directed by Claude Berri, based on a novel by Marcel Pagnol. The film takes place in rural Provence, where two local farmers scheme to trick a newcomer out of his newly inherited property. The film starred three of Frances most prominent actors Gerard Depardieu, Daniel Auteuil, who won a BAFTA award for his performance, and Yves Montand in one of the last roles before his death.

Keira Knightley stars in the lead role of Elizabeth Bennet, while Matthew Macfadyen plays her romantic interest Mr Darcy.
