The local branch of Samaritans is currently recruiting for more listening and support volunteers and is holding an information evening on Wednesday 29th January 2025 6 - 7pm at their base at 30 Hue Street, St Helier, opposite the side of the Magistrate’s Court.
Branch Director Tarnia emphasised the rewards of being a Samaritans volunteer:
“To be entrusted to a caller’s innermost thoughts, feelings and emotions at a time when they may be feeling at their lowest most vulnerable times, is incredibly humbling. The Jersey Branch of Samaritans is a diverse, close-knit group of people who willingly answer thousands of calls a year. The excellent training not only prepares you for communicating with our callers without giving advice but opens up a new way of communication with friends and family. A truly unique, rewarding charity”.
