Freeda is delighted to invite you to our much anticipated and popular annual International Women’s Day (IWD) Breakfast, kindly sponsored by our valued partner CSC. The UN theme for IWD this year is ‘For ALL women and girls: Rights Equality & Empowerment’. We are very much looking forward to exploring this from an international and local perspective and we are privileged to have two deeply knowledgeable speakers, both experienced human rights lawyers and passionate campaigners for justice for ALL women and girls: From the U.K., Harriet Wistrich is the founder and director of the Centre for Women’s Justice, and a founding member of the UK campaign group, Justice for Women. A solicitor with more than 25 years’ experience, she has worked for many years with renowned civil liberties firm Birnberg Peirce Ltd and acted in many high-profile cases in the UK around violence against women. Harriet is author of the book ‘Sister in Law: Shocking true stories of fighting for justice in a legal system designed by men’. Dr. Sasha Holden is a lawyer by background and academic researcher living and working in Jersey. She specialises in international law and human rights, focusing on women, migrants and refugees. She is particularly interested in the lives of women and other vulnerable groups who may be neglected in the creation of laws and the protection of rights. In her role as Associate Dean at Jersey’s Institute of Law, Sasha has designed and taught courses on a range of subjects including governance and the role of law in society, and she has mentored many of Jersey’s aspiring legal professionals. Sasha offers consulting advice and has previously partnered with the British Red Cross, carrying out research to promote legal reform. Sasha is currently commissioned by the Jersey Community Relations Trust to research and make recommendations in relation to the local immigration framework and new Modern Day Slavery legislation for the island. Sasha has also founded The LOLA Project, a charity to promote wellbeing for women who have experienced miscarriage and stillbirth. Join us in this thought-provoking celebration of International Women’s Day and reserve your place today.
